I joined a regulator because the advert said its purpose was to help charities, and that sounded meaningful.
I underestimated how meaningful it was. Seven years later, when moving on to my next regulatory role, I had just about understood what good regulation can do.
Over a 20+ year career I've seen the capabilities of regulators expand exponentially. The professionalisation of its skills and opportunities. The adoption of stakeholder- and sector-focused customer service to drive compliance. The drive for high integrity and humility, for learning and adapting to unimaginable social, political economic and technological change.
My experience in regulation
Nine years leading political finance regulation, through multiple local and national elections, three Westminster parliamentary elections, and the EU referendum.
