Sky-High Spending: How Political Spending Laws Harm Public Trust
The recent by-election in Clacton-on-Sea, with its 34 candidates and metre-long ballot paper, was an extreme example of a major issue in UK elections. Having campaign spending limits so high that only a very few can get close to them only exacerbates the current crisis in voter trusts.
Are we creating a two-tier electorate?
Are we telling 16 and 17 year olds that they are mature enough to vote, but not mature enough to watch the campaign unfold on social media?
